  • I am trying to find a book/website w/ a good selection of dolls that I can use when scrap booking?

I am trying to find somewhere w/ a good selection of dolls that I can use when scrap booking?
I love scrap booking and recently I’ve seen some pages where instead of pictures people use dolls that are personalized to look like them or who ever the page is about. The dolls are about the height of a scrap book page and I would like to try this for my next page. Any ideas, books or websites that will help ?

EK success has a line of templates called tracerkins that are paper dolls. http://www.shophandmade.com/Item?Affiliate=FeedGoogle&LinkCoupon=FeedGoogle&Item1=H19K7TP

If you have or ever get a cricut machine they have a great cartridge for paper dolls www.cricut.com/res/handbooks/PaperDollDressUp-Handbook.pdf. Sizzex Die Cutter also has templates for paper dolls

Do you think getting accommodations for learning disabilities like ADD give them an unfair advantage?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under accommodations | 4 Comments »

I’m in college, and everyone is always saying "Oh, I totally have ADD" and are actually completely serious. Countless people say that when people get accommodations (such as extra time on a test) for their learning disabilities that it gives them an unfair advantage.
Do a lot of people think this? And why?

Having ADD can be a major disadvantage — many of those kids barely get through high school, no matter how bright they are. Accommodations, such as extra time on a test, acknowledges both their potential and their problems and attempts to level the playing field a bit.

Is it possible to work on an Indian reservation?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under reservation | 1 Comment »

I am 18 and looking to work specifically on the Rosebud Reservation, in South Dakota. Is it possible? What do I have to do to get into the reservation? Is it possible to work there long enough after the summer to learn the Sioux Language? Do they provide food and housing? What kind of jobs?

You are not going to want to hear this, but, my mother’s family has lived on the Pine Ridge Res line for many generations, and still do, I visit often. It is very close to the Rosebud Res, and I can tell you, it will be VERY difficult if not impossible to "get in to the Reservation".

It is not what you picture at all, and you really should take a trip to the area, spend some time there and see for yourself. I’m not going to go in to descriptions, but, it’s NOT like whatever picture you might have in your head.

Are people really moving into motels due to this economic crisis?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under motels | 3 Comments »

I read about how a bunch of old motels in Orange county, CA are filling up with middle class families. Is this happening in the Eastern US too?
Can this economy be that bad?

I live in North Carolina, and yes, it’s happening here too. I think a lot of people are just tired of dealing with their banks, trying to get help to keep their homes, and are just letting it go into foreclosure. For some, it may be cheaper to live in a motel room, as they don’t have to pay all the overhead costs such as upkeep on their homes, electric bills and so forth. Very sad times we’re living in.

Can I lodge money in a Lloyds Bank in England and withdraw from A TSB branch in Northern Ireland?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under lodge | 1 Comment »

Hi I know it’s called Lloyds TSB but I have to travel to Northern Ireland and so I was hoping I could lodge money in a Lloyds bank in England and then withdraw as I need it from TSB bank in N Ireland.
The hole in the wall card from Lloyds TSB is very selective.

    Cheers.

    Yes, you can.

What action can I take against a neighbour who has built their house in a way which does not fit in community?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under house | 6 Comments »

My neigbour demolished the house and built a new one. My house was designed and built before this occurred. Everything was fine until the new house was built.

Now, the neighbours have replaced the wall and carport that was on their side of the fence, running the entire length of my house, with an outdoor entertaining, dining area. ie, what was originally at the back of the house, they have moved to the side of their house, along the side of my house.

What this means is, the design of my house is no longer appropriate, because it does not incorporate any barrier against the noise that is constantly coming from the neighbour’s outdoor area on the side of the house.

I would like to know if there is any way they can be forced to change their house so that it fits with the design of my house, which occured first. It is very unpleasant to have to listen to the neighbours all day, every day, and not be able to get any peace in the lounge room or bedroom.
Sorry I should have mentioned, I am in Australia, but if you can tell me what you know about your local laws it will still help me, thanks.

can you tell us if you’re in the US or UK? I’m a city planner in the US, but I won’t be able to help you with UK laws and policies.

In the U.S., there are only two sources of rules for house building.

    1. Local planning agency rules for the jurisdiction in which you live. These are in the form of zoning ordinances, subdivision ordinances, etc. You can call the local planning agency and apprise them of the situation to see if there is a violation. Chances are, all the work being done would have necessitated a permit, a copy of which should be available at the planning agency. In the U.S., most local ordinances don’t really regulate much about house construction other than placing limits on height, and requiring certain minimum offsets from property lines. These rules would NOT typically govern where someone chooses to place their outdoor courtyard, and they would not typically regulate architectural style (unless the neighborhood was a designated historic district).

    2. Private deed restrictions / restrictive covenants… If you live in a planned development, there MAY be privately enforced restrictive covenants / regulations that apply to all those living within the development. These will not typically be enforced by any government agency, as they are private rules… The only recourse is to lodge a complaint against an offending party with the Home Owners Association or whomever is charged with enforcement of the covenants. The courts are probably the only way to force compliance. Government agencies will not involve themselves in these matters.

    Good luck.

How does one become Romanian translator in England please?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under england | 5 Comments »

    Hi

Does anyone know the process or requirements (academic/legal) for working as a Romanian translator in England please?

My friend, she is fluent in both languages, yet has worked in England for 10 years in an ‘un-skilled’ profession. She is actually very gifted with languages and wishes to further herself but does not have any British qualifications.

I suggested maybe working as a Police/Hospital translator, but I have no idea how to help her any further, and if it’s actually quite difficult to (literally) ‘walk into’ a job like this.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated – thank you for your help.

There are recognised interpreting qualifications such as Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) which most public service agencies will require interpreters they engage to have.
You dont say where in England your friend lives, but the agency for the East of England is CINTRA:

and I imagine there are similar agencies elsewhere, although many interpreters work on their own.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of going to a hostel?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under hostel | 4 Comments »

I just just want to know, because most of the time I hear negative things about it so I just want to know both the advantage and disadvantage of living in a hostel.

Thanks for your help in advance,
    Sarah J. xx

From what I have heard from Girl Scout troops which have used hostels, a lot of it depends on the hostel. Some are very good and some are not so great. If you can look up the particular hostel on the Internet, you might be able to get recommendations.

Staffing is one thing to check out. Some hostels only have staff at certain times and some have staff 24 hours a day. If they have staff at limited times, then you may only be allowed to get into the hostel when there is a staff on duty.

Location is another. Some have reported hostels in great, safe locations while other hostels are located in areas where they did not feel very safe.

    Advantage:
    cheap
meet lots of people from different places
location may be close to the places you want to visit

    Disadvantage:
may have to share the room with people you don’t know
hours may be limited – have to be out by a certain time each morning and can’t come back until a certain time and the building may be used by others so you may not be able to leave your stuff there
    sharing bathrooms
no place to prepare or keep food or limited kitchen facilities

Any advice for saving money on accomodations on a road trip through Utah and Nevada?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under accomodations | 1 Comment »

I’m traveling alone and staying at motels and hopefully hostels where they’re available. I’m going to Salt Lake City, South Utah and possibly coming back though Death Valley. It doesn’t seem like campgrounds are open now. I would consider sleeping there in my car otherwise.

Hey if you like Hostels then you will like Couchsurfing! This is a website that links fellow travelers with other travelers. People will open up their homes and host you for a night or two. Some people only have a couch and others have a spare bed. I have hosted many people and I have also traveled all over using couchsurfing. You go can browse through people’s profiles and see what they have to offer, then you can send them a request to surf. Most people will get back to you in less than 24 hours. I am so glad that I found counchsurfing it has saved me so much money. My friends just got back from Egypt using it and they had a great time and no problems. The great thing is that you are staying with a local and they can tell you where the locals go or even take you around town. Again I have never had any issues surfing with people or letting people surf with me. I just hosted someone last weekend and we had a blast. You sound like the type of person that would enjoy this so check it out!
