No, I don’t think so, unless they want to. Sexual equality in government is one thing, but religions run themselves. No one has to be a part of them. You can always start your own religion with your own rules

The Christian Malleus Malificarum and the subsequent slaughter of about a million people, mostly women "of independent mind" has historically been the typical gender "accomodation" made by magical-thinking / patriarchal / misogynistic religions.
Edit: I was always taught that the number killed over approximately three centuries fell somewhere between 50,000 and 500,000. Then, at the same time the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, the Vatican released all kinds of stuff, like how the Bible has been editied approximately 22,000 times. In the gush of revelations then, the Malleus Mal. death toll was "officially" estimated by the Vatican itself to actually have been somewhere between one and five million. So, I just use the lowest figure. Most scholars in this matter now put the toll at more like 4-5 million.

depending on what kind of religion you’re referring to. islam is disqualified at the onset, it is monolithic tribal religion of the arabs at the desert that naturally treats woman as properties. christianity has its problems too.mainstream protestant denominations have made some concessions during the past two decades.fundamentalist christians is an altogether different story, and they have theological basis for different gender roles.
gender equality is never an issue in christianity upon careful reading of the holy bible. God looks at the heart not at the gender. only gender roles is different for each sexes.
it has been argued that women are discriminated in christianity. WRONG! the teachings of the bible on the common traits of all human is quite clear and never before in the history of the world women has been liberated except in christian countries. where did woman liberation movement arose, where it find support of the society, which society was women treated fairly and assumes due respect accord with their humanity?
gender equality is never an issue in biblical christianity, gender roles are, and the bible has been very clear for it. gender roles must be different.

Yes. During the Reformation, the Catholic Church refused to change with the times, so people left the church in mass to read the Bible for themselves, and they developed the many sects of Protestantism. The world changed during the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, and the church refused to change with the time. If the church doesn’t change with the times, the same thing will happen, and is happening. New non-denominational churches are arising to deal with the modern world. These churches are gender neutral and believe in equality.
I notice that the churches that claim that women should not speak in church due to one verse by St Paul, a man who never met Jesus, also say that they believe that every word of the Bible is applicable today. However they don’t stone men for masturbating, and required in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. They seem to be able to get around that requirement, but hold fast to the misogynist teachings of St. Paul.
