  • Can you recommend any hostels or cheap accomodations in San Juan, Puerto Rico?

Posted by admin on February 17th, 2010 and filed under accomodations | 4 Comments »

    Hello,
I’m planning on flying into San Juan, Puerto Rico in mid-December and am looking for a cheap hostel or motel to stay in for a couple of nights? Do you have any suggestions for places to stay or where I should look?

I would prefer to stay near Old San Juan and definitely must be a safe neighborhood.

    Thank you!

I’m also planning a trip to Puerto Rico later this year. I’ve included a link to a hotel list in the area. I want to stay near the beach, but I haven’t decided on my hotel yet. Enjoy your trip…I can’t wait for mine!

      Hi.

It depends what you consider cheap. San Juan is not the cheapest destination.

One option would be to try http://www.priceline.com On this site you can specify the star rating of the hotel and then you enter how much you are willing to pay e.g.
      3 Star on Expedia $200
you enter $100 and if priceline finds a match then you get the hotel for $100.
The only downside to this; you will not find out the name of the hotel until you have a winning bid accepted. I have used it for various cities and I have got great deals.

The other option: Check out Da House hotel in Old San Juan, they have room for around $80-$100 per night. From the look of the website the rooms look good. It was also featured recently in the ‘Frugal Traveller’ series in the New York Times

Holiday Inn in Isla Verde is supposed to be good and should be a good price

Finally check http://www.tripadvisor.com and search for reviews on ‘bed & breakfast’ places.

and for ideas when you are here check out http://www.visit-the-coqui.com

      good luck

San Juan is a big city & it is pretty expensive. If you stay outside San Juan you can find cheaper hotels. However, if you want to stay in San Juan you can get a hotel for $100+ It will be hard to find something cheaper than that & it will not be very nice. I suggest checking out vacation rentals from private owners. Here are some links below of places in San Juan that are all less than $70. GoodLK! ENJOY! Pr is gorgeous! Try to go see El Yunque rain forest & a bioluminescent bay!

Yes. There are these places called paradores, which is like a bed and breakfast. Travelers stay there because they usually go from town to town and they’re not expensive.

They’re not exactly in San Juan, but you can always rent a car. The nearest to the Metropolitan Area would be the one in Hatillo, which is an hour and a half away.

However, your other option is the San Juan Beach Hotel, but it’s not exactly ultra-low budget. I’m not sure exactly how much, but still.

My other suggestion is to check out http://www.puertoricosmallhotels.com

      Hope this helps!
