I am planning a trip and thinking of using Amtrak. Is it a good idea or a bad idea?
Some friends of mine have put together a guide to riding Amtrak, full of suggestions to make the trip pleasurable.
It’s on this website:
http://www.on-track-on-line.com
And then click on "Amtrak Travel Tips" on the left of the screen.
In general, service is good, particularly if you reserve a private compartment.

I think it’s a good idea.
In any case I can’t afford to fly, or drive, or in some cases I just want to enjoy a good train ride when traveling, I was always attracted to the idea of traveling by Amtrak.
What I like about traveling by train is; for one there is actually more room on trains than there are most airline flights, and especially any buses, second, I like the fact that the passengers of a train can get up, and walk around on the train in comfort, as well as during the majority of the trip, third, you don’t have to wait to get to any destinations that are on the way to yours and/or, you don’t have to wait till a particular time to get something to eat or drink, you can get up on your own, and hit up the dining car.
Another factor I like about traveling by train, is you can see a lot of beautiful scenery you would never even have the chance of seeing when riding a bus, and often times when you drive.
I have rode Amtrak on several occasions, and every one of them was a satisfying experience, unlike Greyhound……….

I have tickets booked to CA, but I have been researching it all day and I am SCARED!!!! where are you going on your trip? check out this website to see the past history of the "ontime" or "lateness" of your train. http://www.amtrakdelays.com
of course, if you don’t care too much about time, then you are good to go. I have been on trrains when i was younger, and didnt care if it was late. now im traveling with my 2 kids to disney and OMG if we are late i am sure i will hear about it LOL. if you want to see pictures of the trains and the accomidations go to this web site http://www.trainweb.com/accommod/
they will have everything you need. I love being able to walk around, stretch my legs and look at the scenery fly by, which you cant do on ANY other mode of transportation. Plus, it’s cheap and the coach seating really isn’t too bad. if you go to this wesite, http://www.retailmenot.com/view/amtrak.com you may be able to find a discount code for whereever you are going. REMEMBER, the trip will only be what you make it out to be. if you go on the train with the mindset that it may be late, then you will be fine. Most of all have fun, because you will remember it forever !
