Can anyone recommend some traditional Chinese accommodations (in all budget range) in Shanghai and Xi’an? I don’t want to stay in the usual hotels.

if you want traditional, why not get on facebook, join the China network, meet some people in those cities and ask if you can stay with them while you are in their city, that would be traditional housing, or you can check out hte links below

   What is "traditional Chinese accommodations"?

   Is it possible you confuse that with Japanese Ryokans?

   There is nothing similar in China.

   i know in xi’an have some department ,which is not hotel ,just like the citizens living place . These Department is located in the center of urban city, the reasonable charge.
