I am a teacher ed. student and I have to do a lesson plan that accomodateds gifted talented, as well as IEP students, and English as a second language students.
4th grade , major content: early america, subject: arts and humanities.
This is for a college class. I have to do a lesson plan with accomodations for EIP, gifrted, and tallented, and esl
For Gifted:
1. Explore concepts in depth and encourage independent
study
2. Encourage creative expression and thinking by allowing students to choose how to approach a problem or assignment
3. Employ differentiated curriculum
4. Avoid drill and practice activities
5. Ask students’ higher level questions that require students
to look into causes, experiences, and facts to draw a
conclusion or make connections to other areas of learning.
6.If possible, compact the lesson for them to allow gifted
students to move more quickly through the material.
7. Encourage the students to make transformations- use a
common task or item in a different way
For IEP students:
1. Extended Time
2. Alternative Materials
3. Modified Assignments (shorter, easier)
4. Dictation to Scribe (if child has dysgraphia)
5. Computer, typewriter
For ESL:
1. Extended Time
2. Alternative Materials
3. Modified Assignments (shorter, easier)
4. Interpreting, Transliterating
You didn’t state the grade level, so I picked a lesson plan at random. You can surf the site for a more appropriate one, if needed. I picked this one because it shows how to extend the lesson.

You need more specifics- subject, grade, theme/concept, size of class, etc. I am guessing this is not a real lesson but one for academic purposes. Edit your question and add some details.

Accommodations for gifted/talented students could be to use more evaluation and synthesis in their projects that would show comparison or why something happened. I like using a grid that has Bloom’s taxonomy on one side and Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences on the other and brainstorm activities that any students could use to demonstrate understanding–could be to write a song, make a video, write a report, build a model, etc. If you are interested in how this is done, there is a great book called Differentiating Instruction–published by Free Spirit. It has a grid similar to the one I’ve used for years and gives many examples of how to implement this type of planning to accommodate all learners.
