What is the difference amond strategies, modifications, and accomodations for disabled students?

Posted by admin on May 5th, 2011 and filed under accomodations | 3 Comments »

Hi, I am having problems differentiating these three terms. I have to come up with 10 different teaching strategies for teaching students with visual impairments. How do I know if it is an actual strategy, modification, or accommodation. Please tell me the difference, definition, give me examples of each. I am so confused about the three. Any help will be awesome.
wow thanks ladies, your answers really helped. I am still confused about strategies and accommodations. It seems like accomodations can also be strategies for the students for visual impaiments?

A strategy is a way to teach a skill, the same skill that other kids are learning. Using music to remember a list, for example.
A modification is when you actually change what a child will learn. Usually this is for kids who cannot learn the task due to mental or physical limitations so they do something different. Modified PE is an easy example.
An accommodation is when you make allowances for a child to do the task in a different way. For instance, having a visually impaired child use enlarged print on worksheets, or reading the questions to a reading disabled child on a science test.

How can you get cheap airfare and find cheap accomodations but safe accomodations?

Want to be close to area’s that are touristy but not overly hard on pocket book. What is the conversion for U.S. dollar. Do we need euros? When is the best and 2nd best time of the year to go?
We want to go to Ireland

For Ireland avoid the peak tourist season July & August. The best time to go is April, May, June, September or October. The next best time is any time Nov-Mar. Ireland has mild winters, it doesn’t usually get below freezing and rarely snows. Summers never get really hot so there isn’t a huge difference in temperatures year round. Average temps range from 40F in January to 60F in July. Any time other than the peak tourist season you will find lower prices and more availability for accommodation. The current conversion the euro is $1.40 USD to 1 euro.

How much does it cost to fly to australia (round trip from winnipeg) and 2 weeks accomodations.?

Posted by admin on February 16th, 2011 and filed under accomodations | 2 Comments »

    K. So I want to go to australia with my sister possibly at the end of the year and travel sites don’t go that far ahead so I was wondering how much it would cost for the flight x2 from winnipeg and accomodations. Thanks your help is much appreciated.

you should go to sites such as http://www,expedia.com & http://www.kayak.com. Look to book as early as possible, as the end of the year (ie. Christmas , etc) is peak time, and so prices are going to get expensive if you leave it too late. on average airlines advertise fares up to 9-10 months ahead.

What are accomodations in London England Universities like for tourists?

Posted by admin on December 9th, 2010 and filed under accomodations | 1 Comment »

I will be visiting London in a couple of months and am quite intriged by the accomodations in the universities there that are made available to tourists while the schools are closed for the holidays. I am a 69 year old woman who will be travelling with my 44 year old daughter. The pictures make them appear basic but clean and that is fine with us but can anyone tell me if they are the kind of place that we are likely going to feel comfortable in?

It really depends on the location of the student digs, but they range from very basic to quite fancy. To give you an idea:

The ones owned by King’s and Queen Mary’s are towards the East End of London, and can best be described as basic one room modern boxes. The East End is also notorious for crime, so I would not recommend it.

The ones owned by Imperial are located in a very posh area – South Kensington and a stone’s throw away from Hyde Park.

The ones owned by UCL, & SOAS are located in Bloomsbury near the British Museum and also range from basic to very fancy. My own student digs were in a converted old church with lots of room and modern facilities in Bloomsbury.

Just make sure that it is not located anywhere in the East End (Postcodes starting with "E"), and be prepared for basic amenities. You might be lucky and get nice rooms in an exclusive area that is close to all the sights. Remember also that the houses here are a little smaller than the US – London happens to be the most expensive real estate in the world now, so have realistic expectations.

    Good luck

Where are the cheap hostels/accomodations in heart of Melbourne ?

Posted by admin on October 10th, 2010 and filed under accomodations | 3 Comments »

Hello, if I want to find cheap hostels or backpackers accommodation places for 2 nights (~$30/night or less) near the more central parts of Melbourne,
Priority is that the surrounding area has to be *SAFE* at night, let’s say if your walking back to place.
Are there any available in Flinders st, or Melbourne central or southern cross ?
How can i find out ?

Also is north brighton a safe surburb?

I stayed at Greenhouse Hostel on Flinders Lane. It’s clean and right in the middle of the city. There’s free wifi, free breakfast, pancakes on Sunday, and pasta on Tuesday. I would definitely recommend it.

Where can I find hotel accomodations for a large family in Makati Philippines?

Posted by admin on October 8th, 2010 and filed under accomodations | 3 Comments »

I have four small children and a husband. When searching for hotel accommodations over the Internet, all I can find are one or two bed hotel rooms. Aren’t there any large suites? I need something with a two queen size beds, a pull out couch and a crib. I don’t want my kids sleeping on the floor for ten nights. I would prefer 3 stars or higher. We are traveling during the Christmas season.

The Peninsula Hotel –It’s the best there.

Can anyone suggest luxury accomodations in Lake George, NY?

Posted by admin on October 5th, 2010 and filed under accomodations | 1 Comment »

We(3 adults) are planning to visit Lake George in few days for the weekend. We would like to stay in a luxury resort or take a presenditial suite or rent a great cottage. Basically we are looking to spend upto $300 – $400 per night per room and are flexible on the type of accomodation(resort or suite or cottage). Can anyone suggest any high-end accomodations in this area?

    Thanks

The Sagamore, in Bolton’s Landing, is very luxurious. I’ve never stayed there, but I’ve been on the grounds and it’s lovely.
