In the novel, The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, what does the house represent.
Jurgis and Ona want to by a lovely house they see in an advertisement, but when they see the house it is run down and old.
What do you think this represents?
Corruption?

I’m reading the book right now too and I think that the house represents the mirage that the government presents society with. They promise a decent house with lovely trimmings and more, but the reality is the exact opposite. I think the house represents the struggle that society (Ona and Jurgis) is faced with and the lies that are told more often than the truth. This is how they tricked immigrants and took their money.

I doubt if my mom will live in her house much more than a year. I doubt if I could afford to keep the house so it will be sold. We have so much stuff in the house that I will not need.I realize a yard sale is one way. If something like a washer and dryer isn’t sold can it be sold with the house price? Since I will not keep the house how will I sell or get rid of everything?

Put the words "estate sale – everything in home must go" on your garage sale ad.
You’ll have possibly hundreds of people show up.
Do you have a friend that is an expert at garage sales?
Get them to help.
Expect people there by 5am waiting.
You’d be surprised how much you would sell.
Put a sign washer and dryer for sale inside and walk with the person inside to show it to them.
You’ll need help.

Have one in a couple of weeks, just a regular garage sale and start selling stuff now.

How does inheriting a house with a minor work?

My grandfather is dying and he is leaving his house to my sister, who is 14, and I ( I am 21). I want to live in the house when he passes, but my sister’s legal guardian wants to live in the house with my sister. How does this work? Shouldn’t I be in charge of the house until my sister turns 18?
my sister’s guardian is our grandmother. we have different dad’s and our mother has drug issues. my grandmother is not married to my grandfather. and no, I do not have a criminal background whatsoever.

What you need to do is get yourself a lawyer with experience dealing with estate issues. You should have a pretty clear-cut case since you are an adult and capable of taking possession of the property and your sister’s guardian has no ground in this, but estates can be really messy. Be prepared.

The house is on sale for $139,999. I am planning to offer $120,000. This house has been on the market for about a month. I have an appointment this Sunday to actually go inside the house and look around. So far, I like the house. The seller claims to have fixed mostly everything inside and outside the house, and it looks like the claims seem to be true from the pictures. What are some useful, good tips? Should I reconsider this? What are some advantages and disadvantages? Please help. Thanks!

I agree — depending on the exact details — you are probably being unrealistic.

Homes are usually priced with 10% wiggle room: $126,000 in your case, although short sales can be notoriously difficult.

The three "typical" cases are

(a) buyers with cash, experience, and connections pay less.

(b) buyers in desirable neighborhoods & areas of town get into bidding wars and pay more.

(c) buyers of homes in good condition are usually forced to pay the list by investors who will buy the home to rent them. The price of the home you are asking about is in prime rent country (rent between $900 and $1500 a month).

My "tip" is to double down on the research. Look at everything similar that has sold within at least a couple of miles of this house. If $120,000 represents a fair average of homes in similar condition, go for it. If not, expect offers farther away from $130,000 to be shot down cold.

This is a great question, because kittens are so lively they really can get into trouble in a hurry. In some cases it is best to scale back decorations to avoid possible damage to the house and/or injury to the kittens. In other situations it is possible to place decorations up and out of the way or in a room with a door so that the kittens cannot get to them. You must be aware that certain items are dangerous or poisonous to cats and should be avoided. These include certain plants and small objects that could be ingested. A cat may be more likely to leave stuffed materials alone or even wooden objects that are too large to be picked up and carried. Cats and kittens are often attracted to a tree and may climb the tree and risk injury so it may be necessary to fore go a tree this year.

You describe the general circumstances or attitudes about the house to the sign ruling it. This goes whether occupied or not. How do you get your house to smell really good?

I have used plug ins in every outlet, sprays, and tried just about everything. My house doesn’t stink, but I want it to have a really nice smell everyday to it. I’ve walked into people’s homes before and their house just smells really good and they aren’t burning anything, or have anything plugged in the walls. It’s almost like a natural really good smell that their house smells like it all of the time. Does anyone have any suggestions or anythign to use? To me, my house just smells like a house and nothing special.

There are ac filter fresheners that you can use that nobody can see. They come in a variety of scents and literally stick right to your ac filter and circulate the scent throughout the house as long as the unit is running. Usually in the ac filter section of your local grocer. See the link below for an example.
