we are planning a wedding and someone thought of the option of renting a ski lodge in the summer when it’s closed. which i think might be a good idea, but we aren’t necessarily the woodsy freak sort of people. still I think it could be very pretty. but I don’t ski and i don’t know anything about lodges other than it’s some sort of hotel. so I’m wondering if anyone knows of any ski lodges that are really nice looking. nice enough that you could have a classy wedding there.

I just recently moved to Portland and am looking to continue attending sweat lodge ceremonies. Unfortunately I’m new the area and don’t know of any. Anyone know of any sweat lodges in the Portland Oregon area?

I’m not sure quite what you are addressing, as I am unfamiliar with the term "sweat lodge". It brings up a "long house" image in my mind, which means you should probably contact one of the many indian nations in the pacific northwest.

It is hard for me to believe people would be sucked into a situation where common sense would say this is not right. 65 people in a sweat lodge designed for 8-12. and only 4 feet high at its tallest point!!Two die and a dozen in serious condition. These people should have been working on their common judgments than trying to seek out some spiritual non existent enlightenment.

Over and over we see the history of a dynamic leader who can get his followers to engage in self-destructive choices some overt like drinking kool aid in Johnstown other less overt like the sweat lodge. In both cases it required that one check their common sense at the door and give the choices over to the leader. Such situations almost always end badly for everyone concerned.

I am a single working mom with a dog, 2 cats and a teenage son. He wants the entire house masculine, but I need to feel some femininity in my home too! Oh, what to do?

My sofa and chair are oversized leather, brownish wine color, and I have a huge stone wall fireplace. I already painted the walls a soft pale green and the carpet is tan. I want to keep it looking like a lodge or cabin. What ideas do you have?

To make it a bit softer, use accessories like a patchwork throw with the green from the walls, wine and maybe some pink and beige in the prints. You can do the same with cushions–find a decorator fabric with sort of big florals in the colors you have (or buy some ready made) and cover a couple of cushions to throw on the sofa. Add a couple more in coordinating stripes or solids. An oriental pattern rug will add some elegance without looking too "girly"…have fun!

I am a new Lodge Chief, and I would like to see our OA Troop Rep. Program do better. We have been trying for years to get it up and running but it never gets near its full potential. My lodge in the process of forming a plan to promote this program, do you have any ideas that could help me?

You might try a camping trip to help train the troop reps. Get the individual troop leaders involved in getting their reps to the weekend. It might be that the troop reps don’t know exactly what their job is. If they get the training and info, you might get a better response.

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to big bear and need to know what Hillcrest lodge is like. How far is it away from the slopes? Has anyone had good or bad experiences with it?
I already contacted the site and have an iddea what room we would get. However, I would like some actual; insight into people’s experience with the lodge. The impression I got was that the hotel was on the edge of town, far from the slopes.

I have an ABN number, as I do a little typing for some family friends. I made less than $350 this financial year. Do I need to lodge a return? I already lodged my personal tax return, will I need to repeat that?

The answer really depends on how much is your total taxable income. How much is your income that you declared in your personal tax return? How much is that plus the income ‘under your ABN’? Is the total more than $6000? If so, you will need to ‘amend’ the personal tax return that you have lodged.

You will not be able to ‘amend’ your tax return via etax. You can do it via various tax agent (including H & R Blocks), or by way of writing to the Tax Office. If you have received the Notice of Assessment for your ‘personal tax return’ you’d have the address there to write.

There are other matters you need to consider, such as when you receive certain government pensions, if you are paying PAYG Instalment during the year… etc.
