I just just want to know, because most of the time I hear negative things about it so I just want to know both the advantage and disadvantage of living in a hostel.
Thanks for your help in advance,
Sarah J. xx
From what I have heard from Girl Scout troops which have used hostels, a lot of it depends on the hostel. Some are very good and some are not so great. If you can look up the particular hostel on the Internet, you might be able to get recommendations.
Staffing is one thing to check out. Some hostels only have staff at certain times and some have staff 24 hours a day. If they have staff at limited times, then you may only be allowed to get into the hostel when there is a staff on duty.
Location is another. Some have reported hostels in great, safe locations while other hostels are located in areas where they did not feel very safe.
Advantage:
cheap
meet lots of people from different places
location may be close to the places you want to visit
Disadvantage:
may have to share the room with people you don’t know
hours may be limited – have to be out by a certain time each morning and can’t come back until a certain time and the building may be used by others so you may not be able to leave your stuff there
sharing bathrooms
no place to prepare or keep food or limited kitchen facilities

this is my personal experience since my children are studying in hostel for the last 7 years and doing well about their studies and the culture and community is one and the same to have good education along with curricular activities in their day to day activities. The mind set of the children will change due to combined education and good guidance of the teachers who are available near to them. the ambitions of parents and aims of the can be achieved to see the goal targetted in their minds. Disadvantage also there that they do not find suffieint time during working days. Weekends are freely available in meeting parents, participation and interacting with others. this facility is provided by the colleges. some times we the parents loose the love and affection due to keeping them at a far away places one important aspect that the children wiil cultivate financial discipline in their activities. they find the social values of their parents as well vis-a-vis. children will find competitiveness in their attitude. they cultivate the discipline.
