I am a single working mom with a dog, 2 cats and a teenage son. He wants the entire house masculine, but I need to feel some femininity in my home too! Oh, what to do?
My sofa and chair are oversized leather, brownish wine color, and I have a huge stone wall fireplace. I already painted the walls a soft pale green and the carpet is tan. I want to keep it looking like a lodge or cabin. What ideas do you have?
To make it a bit softer, use accessories like a patchwork throw with the green from the walls, wine and maybe some pink and beige in the prints. You can do the same with cushions–find a decorator fabric with sort of big florals in the colors you have (or buy some ready made) and cover a couple of cushions to throw on the sofa. Add a couple more in coordinating stripes or solids. An oriental pattern rug will add some elegance without looking too "girly"…have fun!

How about a quilted throw and pillow. This is old traditional, yet feminine.
Wood frames, anything raw and natural. This could range from dried plants, old milk cans, grasses for decoration when you dont have fresh flowers. A couple of polished rocks beside a white candle.
Hope these ideas helped. Having trouble picturing green walls in a cabin looking natural. no offence.
Good luck!

I have a similar problem in my house, I’m the only female living with my husband and two adult sons. For your cabin look I would suggest a tapestry for over the mantel, perhaps one with deers this website has a few at reasonable prices: http://www.thewoollysheep.com/hautman-brothers-rugs-s/63.htm
Maybe some pillows also made with a tapestry fabric, check out this site for the idea: http://www.blackforestdecor.com/
Look on ebay for old snow shoes and antique wood blade ice skates to hang as decorations, here are a few samples:

Check out cabin decor websites, and don’t forget the lighting, there are a lot of good idea’s on those sites.
Use a lot of natural elements, i.e. stone, wood, leather, plants. With what you have already you should have no problem, have fun.

Pick a color you love – bright pink would be good but your son might find red more acceptable. Try to use some of this color on the walls – one whole wall or some alcoves.
Buy cushions/pillows and curtains in a patterned fabric that brings together the pink/red with the existing green and tan.
A plain rug in the red/pink would look good too.
