I read about how a bunch of old motels in Orange county, CA are filling up with middle class families. Is this happening in the Eastern US too?
Can this economy be that bad?
I live in North Carolina, and yes, it’s happening here too. I think a lot of people are just tired of dealing with their banks, trying to get help to keep their homes, and are just letting it go into foreclosure. For some, it may be cheaper to live in a motel room, as they don’t have to pay all the overhead costs such as upkeep on their homes, electric bills and so forth. Very sad times we’re living in.

Oh yeah I heard bout that.
I don’t think they can live there very long though.
It’s actually cheaper to rent here on the East Coast than it is on the West coast.
$400 will pay for a week in a motel
but $400 will pay for a shared apartment for a month.

It’s about time this story was put on TV, (ABC News-Sunday night). My Wife and I were forced to move into a motel. Actually we were fortunate enough to find one that was nice and a great deal newer then the apartment we moved out of. We finally found an apartment after two years. If you have a low Credit rating no one will even rent to you unless you have 3 months up front, that is about $2,700.00 just to get in where we are.
