@conroto What R U ? … @conroto What R U ?? A lawer for the audience ?? WTF ?? Listen to the music . If you dont like his back – get out of the concert !!!
Why does he suck? … Why does he suck? He got the gig. Can’t suck that bad. He’s playing the tune how she wants it. He doesn’t have to cover Mustang Sally every night. Pretty cool gig.
I am a bass player … I am a bass player myself, I sort of like the Rickenbacker he’s playing in this clip, but that guy is not doing a good job (neither is the rest of the band, save for Martha). Maybe they want to come across as “laid back”, but to me they appear either very tired or completely ignorant to the fact that they’re playing in front of an audience that has paid to see them perform. Very unprofessional behavior, and definitely not what a woman with a voice and presence of Martha’s caliber deserves!
my favorite song … my favorite song from the 80′s , as a 25 yr. veteran of the music biz , I say these guy’s should’ve gotten 1/2 the pay for a half performance. great vocals!
I saw this band … I saw this band back in 1982 before this song was released. They were a back up for Tom Petty. This is thier best song for sure!!!!!!
Ahh come on… her … Ahh come on… her players could give her more than that… wtf lamers. I’ll play for you Martha, for $20k for 12 shows. Give me a call Martha!!
Codyhusky is right. … Codyhusky is right. I was a bass player in the 80′s. The Drummer and bass player have to work closely toghether to keep it all together. Sometimes you and the drummer have to face each other and for me I used to cue my drummers on a lot of stuff. Have to remember the Drummer is not a guitar player and sometimes has to relay on the bass player for song order.
Bass players (I am … Bass players (I am one) are more interested in keeping the rhythm and music together therefore we work closely with the drummers giving the rest of the band a foundation upon where to play upon. Its about the music….
Or he can’t hear … Or he can’t hear the drummer in the monitor, or, again, maybe he’s not interested in the personality cult. If you want to look at the band, you could listen to the record while studying a picture. I’m rather fond of bands that tended to preserve that wall between audience and performer, like the Residents or the Velvets.
Well, I guess we … Well, I guess we disagree. I think people in the entertainment business should not do their job with their back to the audience.
And if he has to turn his back to make eye contact with the drummer and guitar player to keep time, there’s something going on with his time or the band’s. In a band as fine as The Motels, there should be no need for that.
Actually, a bass … Actually, a bass player’s job is to play bass, not preen to the audience. If you watch him, he’s not turning his back 180 degrees on the audience, he’s making eye contact with the drummer and guitar player to keep time.
Great tune and a … Great tune and a great band. Why is it that bass players don’t consider themselves a part of the actual band and turn their back on the audience? I have seen it over and over. What if the vocalist did that? How about the lead guitar? The drummer?
Hello Mr Bass Player. You’re a member of the band. Your duty is to acknowledge the audience, face them and perform. If you’re going to perform with your back to the audience, just get the off the stage .
Thanks for posting … Thanks for posting this video of Martha and her band! This is her performance on 8/30/08 in NYC. Martha’s stage presence and voice are EVERGREEN! Isn’t it great that she still plays out LIVE! And she very graciously came out after the show to greet all of us!
Again, appreciate you taking the time to post it for others to view!
