I need to pay a deposit to confirm a reservation in an Icelandic youth hostel. Paying by bank transfer from my bank costs more than the cost of the accommodation!
I am afraid a credit card number could get read by someone else if I send it by email.
Western Union is quite expensive, too.
Do you think they would accept me sending a normal banking account check in US dollars by snail mail?
Actually, phone calling cards, especially international ones, are available almost anywhere now a days….I agree about calling and taking care of it over the phone…Icelandic youth hostel, hmmm….Cue scary music….lol.

hi there
if you have their phone number give them a call using a calling card (you can get these from a tobacconist) and give your credit card details via the telephone. also ask them if can send you a receipt confirming your deposit.
hope this helps!

the first answer will probably be the easiest way.
I’m sure they don’t want your US cheque because then they’ll have to pay the costs that you aren’t to keen on in the first option you mentioned.
Perhaps they’ll accept US cash by mail

Call them and give your credit card details. Ask for proof of deposit payment.
Or send a cashier’s check which is good as cash.
